Kimberley Tourism
Exploring the last great wilderness.
Australia's North West is one of the world's last true wilderness areas and the place to go for an authentic Aussie outback adventure. Relax on Broome's breathtaking Cable Beach or remote Cape Laveque.
Tourism development of the Kimberley
Since the early 1900's, tourism became an important business for the Kimberley coastal town of Broome. Broome is a destination for visitors attracted by its warm winter climate, diverse cultural history and white sandy beaches. A concentrated effort led by Lord Alistair McAlpine to resurrect the historical charm of the town led to restoration of many of the town's old buildings and a sound plan for Broome's future.
Developers discovered that Broome had a wealth of available opportunities and were eager to invest in the town. Tourism is now recognised as a major industry for Broome and the entire Kimberley region.
A growing tourist destination
Venture into red-earth country on a four wheel drive adventure, take a scenic flight over extraordinary rock formations and magnificent waterfalls, or cruise through the inland waterways that permeate the region.
Not to be missed is the Bungle Bungle Range in the World Heritage listed Purnululu National Park, and Lake Argyle - large enough to be classified as an inland sea.
The Kimberley region of north Western Australia has become a must see destination boasting a wide variety of environments ranging from semi desert lands, rugged ridge and coastal fringes to lush tropical micro environments alive with a wide selection of flora and fauna unique to the area.
